In general romance films are usually directed to be good viewing for woman however if the movie does it really well it can also be good for men too. Usually woman aged anywhere from 13-35 will enjoy the heartbreaking agony of some romance films, this may be because they can relate to the main character more because usually in a romance film it is a woman protagonist and therefore woman will be able to relate more and be able to put themselves into the shoes of the main character and can imagine what it would be like to be them in that situation.

Teenagers seem to be a big contributor to the market on romance films and as such the directors usually will make the actor/actress young so the younger audience can relate more to what young love truly is and what it is about.

The romance genre in general is very versatile with the amount of different choices you can have, for example you can sit through romantic comedies for a more light hearted love affair, a romantic drama where every part of the film is overly emotional and dramatic to create more of a loving atmosphere between any young couple in the audience, a chick flick is a type of romance film aimed mainly at woman who can relate to the main characters, it always has some sort of relate-able relationship in it, romantic action comedies is just a type of romance film which bends different genres in into it to make more of an appealing movie to a wider audience and the same goes for the last one a romantic thriller which just tries to make it more interesting for a male audience who wouldn't necessarily like the film otherwise. This wide range of diversity makes the romance genre easilly adaptable to anyone's specific needs in a movie whether that be a light hearted affair, an action sequence or just full on romance it has something which can make everyone happy.
